The catastrophe >> the detachment >> the digestion >> the seams >> the pigmentation >> the containing bodies.
The Yanaca cups are the result of the tension between various refractory clays worked and pigmented by hand. It is the conversation between different textures, different drying and firing processes as well as several landscapes digested in the same container body.
The pieces are conceived as fossilized bodies, starting from these digestive processes to question and honor the memory of the territory, eternalizing the history of events that have occurred on it, evidencing the power of adaptation and presence through non-presence.
The internal distribution of the clays are highlighted as if you were seeing the intestines of each cup. Each exploration seeks to question the delimitations through the reliefs, a pictorial language through the rupture of the instinct of attachment and the detachment.
The migration project is a digestive project.
Immigration grief, a restructuring process.
The pigmentation, a new effort to compose and accept the new realities.
Color as an ally is not superficial but structural. The climate, the landscape, the acclimatization, the metabolization of a new context.
Yanaca >> the power of the table and digestive rituals
Yanaca is a high-temperature ceramic project created by Jimena Lahura (Lima, 1991) that focuses on the creation of stoneware that explores the limits of the materials under the narrative of the digestion as a binding language.
